My name is Jessie Thompson and I started the Nor'easters Metal Detecting Club on February 11th 2006. It was formed at a suggestion of other detectorist who like me were interested in a club near the inner shoreline of the Long Island Sound.

The club has grown from about 20 original members to its current enrollment of about 50. It is registered in the City of Stamford CT and is insured for organized club sponsored hunts.

Our membership is varied and is open to the general public. We welcome new and seasoned veterans that are into the hobby of metal detecting.

Our meetings are open forum which means, we do things a little different. We do not have a gavel and minutes approach like most other clubs. What we do is to hold our meeting in a way that promotes openness and camaraderie amongst our members. Each member comes in and brings their finds for others to see and peruse. This allows all to walk around and mingle as they choose. We do bring in visitors from time to time to offer talks on a wide range of interest pertaining to the hobby of metal detecting and history.

We have mailed out letters and have made ourselves known to local law enforcement as ready and available if and when requested for object recoveries and to assist others who might have lost something of a metal nature.

We also give talks promoting our hobby to other interested groups and do make presentations of historical finds to those who allow us permission to search their locations with that request in mind.

I started out detecting about 8 years ago and have been heavily into the hobby ever since. I have been on multi-day hunts such as Jeremiah Burrs Cash Bash and The Bone up in New Hampshire. Not to mention all the local hunts with other clubs and private outing with many friends.

Our meetings are held in the basement level of Saint Maurice Church in Stamford, CT.

The Logo of the Nor'easter Metal Detecting Club is representative of a Long Island Sound Light House with a seagull representative of the large community of detectorist that live along the shoreline gateway to New England.

The name Nor’easters was chosen as a combination between the Storms that travel up the coastline to our area and it is also a nick name bestowed upon those who reside in the North East region of the United States also known as New Englanders.
